NASHVILLE, Tenn. For the first time in 50 years the Dickerson Pike black friday uggs area is getting a facelift.



A new development created by the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency hopes to bring new life to an area once plagued with crime and prostitution.



Uptown Flats is a new three story 72 unit residential building. It is the first market value residential development in this area in 50 years. The building contains two and three bedroom apartments and the cost range from $659 to $955 a month. It a spacious area with gated parking and energy efficient appliances. There are currently 6 tenants living in the building, with around 12 preleased units.



For many years the Dickerson Road Merchants Association has been fighting to clean up the area known for its crime, drugs and prostitution. The reputation has haunted the area and made it difficult for new businesses to start.



The addition of Uptown Flats has many of the local residents and business owners optimistic about the future. They hope this will be the beginning of bigger and better things for the area.



"It would be a new beginning for Dickerson Road. It brings a smile to my face and I sure it will bring a smile to everybody else face," said local resident Lee Logan.



Logan has lived in the Dickerson Road area for two years and he said instead of seeing prostitutes on this busy road it great to see Uptown Flats.



"I think it was a great opportunity for the community. It might help clean up the streets and bring more business," he explained.



Construction of the Uptown Flats was a $3.5 million partnership between MDHA and federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program grant.
